Since 1993, the teachings and practices of yoga have seen Vickie through all the inevitable ups and downs of life (including a devastating accident), and all the moments of love and loss in between.
Moving to Lethbridge in 2001, Vickie has become a true luminary and spark of light for the yoga and wellness community, offering a full line-up of inspiring classes and workshops through her studio, Spirit in Motion Yoga. Students described her studio space as an “oasis of peace and tranquility” where they always felt a sense of connection and belonging. Through the years, Vickie has transitioned from larger drop-in classes, to smaller more intimate classes, as well as private one-on-one work, where students can explore the deeper essence of yoga, meditation, and spirituality.
While Spirit in Motion Yoga no longer has a large studio space, Vickie now offers private sessions, and also partners with local organizations like the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta, and the Martha Retreat Centre, to create “Communities of Practice” where people are invited to explore and heal the deeper aspects of their being, both individually and together.
In an age of increased anxiety, and fear, and worry, and loneliness, Vickie believes it’s essential to our well-being to create safe and sacred spaces where we feel we belong. Places where we can be ourselves. Places where we can heal. Places where we can evolve and grow, together.
Vickie offers smaller intimate classes, groups, and retreats designed to integrate and transform body, mind, and spirit, not only for our own individual well-being, but for the peace and wholeness of all.
Vickie feels deeply nourished by her daily yoga and meditation practice and is passionate about sharing the fruits of both yoga and meditation with others.
After attending her first meditation retreat with Buddhist Master Thich Nhat Hanh in 2011, Vickie was inspired to come home to Lethbridge, and begin facilitating a meditation sangha (community) where people could come together to learn and support each other in the practice of meditation. The Dawning Light Sangha has evolved and changed through the years, and continues to meet weekly both online and in-person at the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta.
Vickie also offers an online community of “rest and restoration for body and soul” through weekly online Yoga Nidra classes. These meditative classes are designed to support participants in the “art of true rest”: of relaxing and slowing down, releasing tension and worry, and listening to the “wisdom of the soul” that arises when we take time to truly slow down and listen.
With deep roots in a progressive Christian community, while fully involved in her Buddhist and yogic communities, Vickie has an “inter-spiritual heart” that honors the stream of wisdom that lies at the depths of all religions. She is passionate about creating bridges of understanding between different cultures and spiritual traditions, and is committed to creating safe and inclusive places where all voices are welcomed, listened to, and affirmed.

Her teaching and writing integrate trauma-informed body-based awareness, breath, and spirituality, offering healing and wholeness to individuals and groups. With an inter-spiritual heart that embraces the oneness of all spiritual traditions, Vickie seeks to build bridges of shared practice and understanding.
As both a trained spiritual director/companion and a certified yoga and meditation teacher, Vickie accompanies people from many walks of life on their spiritual/life journey by listening deeply, and honoring the depth of all traditions. Rooted in her Christian, Buddhist, and yoga communities, Vickie has worked with many diverse groups to build bridges, and create new kinds of spiritual communities, beyond the walls of traditional religion. She is a member of the Alberta Yoga Association, Spiritual Director’s International, Pacific Jubilee, and Spiritual Directors Lethbridge.
Vickie is the author of A Lotus on Fire: How a Buddhist Monk Ignited my Heart, a spiritual memoir that traces her transformative journey with Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, and his Buddhist community. In this deeply personal narrative, Vickie reflects on the role of both the inner and outer teacher, as well as her intimate experience of awakening to the universal power of Love that transcends culture and religion.
Ultimately, Vickie invites her students and readers to “slow down and listen deeply” to ourselves, to each other, to our planet, and to the Great Loving Mystery that holds us all.
Vickie is grateful to the many yoga and meditation teachers from diverse lineages, teachings, and practices, who have taught and guided her over many years.
Most of all, she is grateful to Buddhist Master Thich Nhat Hanh, the “teacher of her heart”, for his loving gaze that awakened her to the Universal Love beyond culture and religion. Inspired by his teachings, she aspires to keep growing, and loving, and living into her spiritual name
“Divine Oneness of the Heart.”
