Yoga Nidra

Deep Rest for Body and Soul

Vickie-water-meditation

Yoga Nidra is a form of deep relaxation and guided meditation.  While usually practiced lying down on your back in savasana (corpse pose), it can also be practiced in a seated position as a form of meditation.  Yoga Nidra means conscious and aware “sleep”.  It is a state where the body is totally relaxed, yet the mind is conscious and aware.  Yoga Nidra was developed thousands of years ago in India as a way of experiencing deep states of inner peace and relaxation, while reconditioning the minds subconscious layers and beliefs.  It is said that 30 minutes of Yoga Nidra is equivalent to 3 hours of deep sleep.  As such, Yoga Nidra provides a soothing antidote to today’s busy lifestyles.

Yoga Nidra:  Deep Rest for Body and Soul

The total length of this Yoga Nidra recording is 55 minutes, however it has been divided into five different tracks to allow you to practice for whatever length of time works best for your schedule.  For a shorter 20 minute practice, listen to tracks two and three.  For the longer 40 minute in-depth practice, listen to tracks 2-5.

  • Track One (13:42):  Introduction to Yoga Nidra
Listen to this before practicing Yoga Nidra the first time.
  • Track Two (12:06):  Relaxing the Physical Body (Manomaya Kosha)
This track introduces you to the practice of Progressive Relaxation, alternately squeezing and releasing different parts of the body to release deeply held muscular tension and holding.
  • Track Three (9:01):  Awareness of Breath and Subtle Energy (Pranamaya Kosha)
With gentle guidance from the mind, we use the energy of the breath (prana) to deliberately infuse the body with vital energy and health.
  • Track Four (13:51):  Awareness of Mind and Feelings, and Tuning into Intuition  (Manomaya Kosha, Vijnanamaya Kosha, Anandamaya Kosha).
Begin to release deeply embedded thoughts, feelings, and beliefs, for deep healing. Tune into the body of higher wisdom to experience your natural state of deep peace and joy.
  • Track Five (8:00):  Awaken to your New Self
Awaken to the sounds of the singing bowl and to the feeling of deep relaxation and peace in your body and soul.  Share the fruits of your practice with all beings, chanting “Shanti, Shanti, Shantih, Om, Peace, Peace, Peace”.

These recordings are offered as a free download for you.  It is my gift shared from the depths of my own life and practice, and the generosity of the many teachers who have brought light to my path.  May you be blessed with health and happiness, and a deep sense of inner peace, as you in turn share your own gifts with the world.
